2023 FIDE World Junior U20 and Canadian Junior U20 are Open for Registration
2023 FIDE World Junior Chess Championships Under 20 in Mexico City, Mexico from Sept 20 to Oct 2, 2023.
2023 Canadian Junior U20 in Toronto, Ontario from Jul 6 to Jul 9, 2023


FIDE and the Mexican Chess Federation, in collaboration with National Sports Commission, Mexican Olympic Committee and Culture Ministry, invite all FIDE Member Federations and eligible players to participate in the FIDE World Junior Chess Championships Under 20 in Mexico City, Mexico from Sept. 20 to Oct 2, 2023.

Venue : The event will be held in Hotel del Prado, México City.


Hotel : Hotel del Prado, México City. All Participants are obliged to stay in official hotels and bookings must be done through the organizers only. Airport is Benito Juarez, Mexico City international airport


Categories and Eligibility:
There are only two categories: Open and Female. Players born on or after 1st January 2003 are eligible to participate.


Tournament Details and Time Control:
  • System:The tournament will be played according to the Swiss System in 11 rounds.

  • Time control:The time control is 90 minutes for the first 40 moves, followed by 30 minutes for the rest of the game, with an increment of 30 seconds per move starting from the 1st move.



World Junior Registration - Deadline July 9, 2023
CFC is accepting entries for eligible players until July 9, 2023. No registrations will be accepted after July 9, 2023.

Upon completion the form, CFC will send an invoice which must be paid by the required date.

The following fees will be charged
FIDE fee : article 4.1
Organizing fee: article 3.4
CFC administrative fee - $100 CAD/player


Official Representatives:
Official Players : The Winners of the OPEN Section (one boy and one girl) from Canadian Junior U20 Chess Championship
All other players can be registered as the additional players.

Official Representatives will have the coverage for accommodation in designated hotel by the organizer base on a double occupancy room and meals starting from lunch on Sept 20th and ending with breakfast on Oct 2nd( article 5.2)

The Canadian Junior U20 Chess Championship is a qualifier for the 2023 FIDE World Junior U20 Chess Championship.

The 2023 Canadian Junior Chess Championship is sanctioned by CFC and the winners of the OPEN Section (one boy and one girl) of this event will become the official Canadian representatives for the World Junior Chess Championship. The organizer will provide a bursary of $1,200 per player to cover the flights.
