Default Demographics of competetive players in Canada

    Collected data from https://www.chess.ca/en/ratings/p/top/
Players played at least a game after 2022 Jan 1.

There some kind an anomaly with players of age 22 - maybe the university tournament players were entered with the same age.
Also for age 99 - seems the age for players who did not entered their DOB on the membership form - about 90 players.

The next plot is of the highest rating in the age group.

Seems couple trends: the rating rises till ~20 age; then stabilizes, and around 35 starts to decline slowly till ~65 years, and then dives down.

Take those numbers with a grain of salt.

    Garbage in, garbage out.
We have lots of missing data in our database, especially the date of birth.
This is from decades of neglect, lots of TD's / clubs etc. not supplying the DOB for new members.

    Folks,
we have a new online membership system, which requires a date of birth for all new players.
But of course, when we implemented it 3 years ago,
those without DOB, were entered as Jan. 1, 1901.
Thus there is a ridiculous number of octogenarians in the CFC!!!

While we are encouraging everyone to use the new JustGo system, many old habits remain.
And the old habits mean we get lots of lists of new players without DOB,
so if we believe them to be adults, we enter Jan.1 2000, Thus we have lots of 22 year olds.
If we believe they are Juniors, then we enter Jan.1, 2020. Thus we also have lots of toddlers.

Please, I beg of you clubs TD's organizers, if you are collecting info for new members,
ask for their date of birth..........or else this problem will never resolve itself.

Regarding garbage in/out - ~90-100 active players in >= 99 age group. That would be ~1.5% of the total set. If to spread over the whole range, it is not that significant error after all.

Regarding - collecting DOB. Good point. Need only to remember

I would guess the membership system would have a way to send a generic email to all members asking them to update their profiles. Some may do so, some may not.
