    Default 2023 Ontario Classical Youth Chess Championships

    An official event of the Ontario Chess Association and an official qualifier event for the Canadian Youth Chess Championships


    Dates: April 15-16, 2023



    Location: St. Robert Catholic High School, 8101 Leslie St, Thornhill, ON L3T 7P4


    Rounds: 5; Saturday (10am, 2pm, 6pm) and Sunday (10am, 2pm, playoff tiebreaks, if any, at 6pm)


    Type: Regular Swiss or Round Robin, depending on section size. Sections may be combined, if required.


    Sections: U8 Open, U8 Girls, U10 Open, U10 Girls, U12 Open, U12 Girls, U14 Open, U14 Girls, U16 Open, U16 Girls, U18 Open, U18 Girls


    Prizes: A bursary to the winner of each section for attendance at the Canadian Youth Chess Championships. Entry fee to the CYCC guaranteed upon registration (paid directly to the CYCC organizers) and, depending on OCYCC entries, accommodations at the CYCC partially or fully paid. If the winner of any given section fails to attend the CYCC, his or her bursary shall be offered to the highest-placed finisher in such section who does attend the CYCC.



    Players with a score of at least 50% will be qualified to compete in the Canadian Youth Chess Championships.

    The top three (3) finishers in each section shall be awarded medals.

    Time Control: G/80 + 30 sec inc

    Entry fee: $115/player, paid no later than April 7, 2023; a current membership with the Chess Federation of Canada must also be purchased no later than April 7, 2023; no entries will be accepted after April 7, 2023

    Free entry for NMs, FMs, IMs, or GMs. Must be Ontario residents and meet age eligibility requirements.

    Requesting byes: all requested byes will be awarded “0” points.

    Registration to: e-Transfer to 2023OCYCC@gmail.com. Please specify name, CFC ID #, age group, and date of birth in a note to the e-Transfer

    CCYC sets and clocks are provided.

    Snacks and water to be provided.

    A simultaneous exhibition is expected to be offered on the Saturday with separate, on-site entry required.

    We have over 170 players registered, and the pairings will be posted tonite on Chess-Results.com. All players are listed there now.

    Round 1 pairings are now posted on chess-results.com.

    U12 Girls has been combined with U14 Girls; U16 Open has been combined with U18 Open. There is no U18 Girls section.

    White's clock will start at 10:00am tomorrow morning. The forfeit time is 30 minutes. We look forward to seeing all players tomorrow!
