Cool Hart House - Holidays & Reading Week Tournament Dates

    Hello chess lovers,

Hart House Chess Club, at the University of Toronto, will put on two classical, open-to-the-community tournaments this season.
For now, please just mark the dates on your calendar:

    ---------------------------------

    Hart House Holidays Open:
    - December 9th, 10th, 11th of 2022. Friday Saturday Sunday
    - 5 Round Swiss split in sections. R1 Friday Evening, R2 and R3 Saturday, R4 and R5 Sunday

    ---------------------------------

    Hart House Reading Week Open:
    - February 18th, 19th, 20th of 2023. Saturday Sunday Monday
    - 6 Round Swiss, two rounds per day.

    ---------------------------------

Expect some minor changes in our format:
    - there will be a modest increase in entry fee
    - we hope to have "early bird" entry tiers, much like other organizers have been administering, although the timeline may be a bit condensed for the first tournament.
    - we are looking at increasing capacity if interest surpasses the capacity of the Great Hall (200)

    Our website is https://harthousechess.com/

We are testing the online payment / registration option at the moment, and further details will be made available, hopefully within the next two weeks.
Please do not send us registration e-mails just yet, or specific inquiries that we may not yet have worked out ourselves. We plan to have the full announcement with details in the coming weeks.
I will update this post / announcement in due time, as needed.

    Thank you,

    Alex Ferreira

    Default

    Hello all,

Online registrations are open. The early bird entry date is November 16th. Registrations have started to come in.

We will try to publish list of players weekly.

Some minor changes from pre-pandemic editions:
    - base entry fee raised to $70
    - University of Toronto students and unrated players pay $35
    - GM / WGM / IM / WIM need to let us know two weeks in advance (Nov. 25th) to get free entry.
    - some features from the online registrations were not so easy to implement, so post Dec 7th (on-site) registrations only will be done by cash. We want to encourage everyone to register online in advance / prior to Dec 7.
    - play-up fee (within 100 points) remains $20 but this has to be sorted with cash on-site. E-mail us this request so we place you in the right section well in advance.
    - prizes will likely be distributed via mail by cheque (we're still looking for on-site alternatives)
    - parking around Hart House has, if anything, become more limited. University of Toronto campus is undergoing a landmark project which will restrict some roads to promote pedestrian zones.
