I would like to welcome everyone to this 2022 Annual General Meeting of the Voting members of the Chess Federation of Canada. This is where we will be voting for and electing the leadership of the CFC for the coming year I would like to thank you for your participation and your volunteering to be a CFC voting member. The CFC is built on the efforts of volunteers like yourself as voting members, as organizers and as elected officers. We could not do it without your help.

This year is an historic milestone as the 150th anniversary of the founding of the Chess Federation of Canada which occurred in 1872.

Last year was challenging as the Covid pandemic stretched into its second year. There are now signs that we have turned the corner and are ready to move forward as we have started to hold tournaments again and we have seen people returning to over the board play in great numbers.

The direction for the CFC will be determined at this meeting and in these elections. WIthout further ado, let us open the meeting.

    Default Report on elections

    REPORT ON ELECTIONS:

    3. Election of voting members from Non-Affiliated Provinces/Territories

The following nominations have been received for Voting Members from Quebec:

Richard Bérubé, Eric Guipi Bopala, Vadim Tsypin

All three have been ACCLAIMED and given full access to the meeting

4.1 For President: Vladimir Drkulec ACCLAIMED

4.2 For Vice-President: Pierre Dénommée, Olga Mushtaler (see results of voting below)

4.3 For Secretary: Lyle Craver ACCLAIMED

4.4 For Treasurer: Fred McKim ACCLAIMED

4.5 For Youth Coordinator: Christina Tao ACCLAIMED

4.6 For CFC FIDE Representative: Victor Plotkin ACCLAIMED

4.7 For Director at Large: Pierre Dénommée, Patricia Gamliel
4.8 For Director at Large: Pierre Dénommée, Mark Dutton

(See below - since there were 3 candidates for 2 positions the election was run as a multiple choice with VMs being able to vote on 1 or 2 candidates as they wished)

4.9 For CFC Ratings Auditor: Ian Findlay, Tony Li (see below)

4.10 For CFC Women’s Chess Coordinator: Oksana Golubeva ACCLAIMED

6.1 For Chess Foundation of Canada Trustee (4 year term): Hugh Brodie ACCLAIMED

6.2 For Chess Foundation of Canada Trustee (1 year term): Ilia Bluvshtein ACCLAIMED

This makes the 2022-2023 Trustees as follows:
    2019-2023 Lloyd Lombard
    2020-2024 Paul Leblanc
    2021-2025 Ian Findlay
    2022-2026 Hugh Brodie
    2022-2023 Ilia Bluvshtein

6.3 For Kalev Pugi Fund Trustee (1 year term): Felix Dumont, Michael Lo, Christina Tao ACCLAIMED

6.4 For National Appeals Committee Member: (5 to be elected)
Ilia Bluvshtein, Pierre Dénommée, Mark Dutton, Aris Marghetis, Stephen Wright ACCLAIMED

    RESULTS OF VOTING:

    9.2: Vice-President: Olga Mushtaler 18, Pierre Dénommée 6 – Mushtaler declared ELECTED

9.7 / 9.8 Director(s) at Large: Special Note: that we had a glitch the first day since while VMs were allowed to vote for either 1 or 2 candidates, the vote was (initially) only allowing votes for 1 candidate each.
By the time this glitch was detected 5 people had voted so as per our earlier announcement at the end of voting I looked at whether each of these 5 had voted in the second thread and it turned out that 3 of them had. The remaining two had NOT voted again so as promised their votes for a single candidate WERE counted. (Which turned out to be one vote for Gamliel, one vote for Dutton)

    Thus the final results are:

    Gamliel 18 ELECTED
    Dutton 17 ELECTED
    Dénommée 10

9.9 Ratings Auditor: Ian Findlay 20, Tony Li 5 – Findlay declared elected. (Note that unlike 9.7/9.8 no one voted on the first vote - all votes received were on the second "REOPENED" voting thread)

A very special thanks to all of you who voted and my best wishes to those elected and my very special thanks to those who let their names stand and were not elected.

Congratulations and thank you to everyone who ran, whether they won or lost. For those of you like Egis who will be concentrating on local organizing, thank for your service.

I am looking forward to working with Olga Mushtaler as the new Vice President. She is the fourth female CFC board member to join us in the last few years which means that 4 out of 9 board positions are now occupied by women. Given our experience with the other women who have joined the board: Christina Tao, Patricia Gamliel, Oksana Golubeva I expect good things from Olga.
