    Default Olympiad statistics

From the airplane Doha - Chennai.

It's going to be Olympiad number 5 for me. The best result was achieved in 2016 in Baku (11th place). The last round match USA-Canada on table 1 was the top moment at my career as a captain. We got solid final result in 2018 (Batumi) - 23th place, but Team didn't perform well; we got very friendly pairings in last 3 rounds.

All 5 Olympiads Eric Hansen was/is a member of Canadian Team. Chennai is going to be 3rd Olympiad for Nikolay Noritsyn under my captaincy, 2nd for Razvan Preotu and 1st for Raja Panjwani and Artiom Samsonkin. Many other Canadian players played for the National team in 2012-2022 with 2 appearances for E.Bareev (2016, 2018), A.Kovalyov (2014, 2016), B.Sambuev (2012, 2014), A.Hambleton (2014, 2018) and L.Gerzhoy (2012-2014).

Hansen played very well in both 2012 (achieved his GM norm which was counted double that time and a GM title) and 2016 (9/11 with the strategy Eric plays white). Underperformed in 2018.

Noritsyn also played 4 Olympiads so far (2008, 2010, 2012 and 2018) and gained rating points every (!) Olympiad. Played more blacks under my captaincy in 2012 (6 out of 9 games with black) and in 2018 (7 out of 9). Actually, Nikolay also played more blacks with Yura Ochkoos as a captain in 2010 (5 out of 8).

Razvan was very solid on board 2 in 2018 in Batumi. Unfortunately, his rating now is almost 70 points lower than 4 years ago. Likely, pandemic has some impact here. India is a good opportunity to come back.

Artiom Samsonkin played in 2010 and performed close to his rating. Did not play much in 2020-2021 but played well enough this summer.

Raja Panjwani was fairly close to make the team in 2010-2012 and not too far in 2014, but always missed a few rating points or just more friendly decision by the Selection Committee. The only player on the team with live rating very close to his maximum.

Similar pairing in 1st round. Liberia for the National Team, Togo for ladies.

Raja will start his Olympic career on board 1 for Canada.
