On Aug 1, 143 players have been registered into the PanAm Selection Stage.

On Aug 4. PanAm organizer cancels the qualifier without any consultation with the federations
Estimados Delegados y Presidentes / Dear President and Delgates

Due to the high demand for the Qualifier by countries (We already had 589 registered in the online qualifying phase !!) and the perhaps unique opportunity for countries to have access to Hybrid event a FIDE América-CCA together with the event organizers panfloripa2021@gmail.com decide that:
The players entrants for the Qualifier will automatically be in the Final Hybrid stage without the need to play the online qualifying event that would take place this weekend. Thus, the Qualifier ceases to exist and all applicants pass the final phase following those who were already in the final phase of the Pan American Youth Festival Hybrid. Those who had paid the 20 USD of the qualifier will be deducted from the amount to be paid for the final hybrid phase.

On Aug 8, PanAm Final Stage : Canada Hybrid Event will not be hosted

We are very disappointed on the PanAm organizer on the decision to cancel the qualifier without any consultation with the federations. This is a very irresponsible behaviour. With a lack of communication, it is also extremely difficult for each federation to organize a hybrid event as well.

On top of that, due to pandemic regulations and restrictions in Canada, it is unlikely that we can organize a hybrid event or series of hybrid events to accommodate all registered players( Only allow 2 locations per country). At this moment, Ontario is restricted to gatherings of 25 individuals which would include players, any organizers, arbiters and parents which would seem to be necessary for some of the very young children in Ontario. There are different restriction rules on each province as well. Also, it is very difficult to get definitive answers from medical authorities on questions about chess tournaments. There is a great risk that any event can be cancelled by the Ministry of Health due to the Covid surge lately.

In the last few days, I had an intensive conversion with the executives and some provincial organizers and we come to the conclusion that Canada will not host nor participate in the PanAm Final Stage Hybrid event. We are very disappointed in this outcome as well.

CFC will do a full refund of $75 to all registered players.
