Cool KEC (Kingston Easter Chess) 2022-24

From the depths of the pandemic, yes, we're already talking KEC 2022!
Also, given the pandemic, our original 2019-22 run is extended to 2024.

We've already started planning the following dates (Easter long weekend):
    KEC 2022: April 14th-18th, 2022
    KEC 2023: April 6th-10th, 2023
    KEC 2024: March 28th - April 1st, 2024

KEC is a 9-rounder, featuring the Canadian Closed, and Zonal for that year.
And there's also 3 lower sections, each with a minimum 1st place of $1000!

The successful 2019 schedule was 1-2-2-2-2 rounds on Thu-Fri-Sat-Sun-Mon
Note that for many people, both Good Friday and Easter Monday are holidays.

I have a question for players rated over 2200 (Canadian Closed/Zonal section):
Would you prefer the 9 rounds over 5 days, or instead extended over 9 days?

    All the best, Aris Marghetis.

Thank you, Aris, for starting planning for the future!

I would prefer the 9 rounds over 9 days.
    Thanks,

    Thanks Michael!

    Offhand (for the top section):

what would you think of 1-2-2-1-2-1
    over Wed-Thu-Fri-Sat-Sun-Mon
    (where Monday is Easter Monday)

I would also like 9 days schedule, but 6 days schedule is much better than 5. 1-2-2-1-2-1 is the best in this case. I played with this schedule in St.Louis.

    Thanks Victor!!

This 1-2-2-1-2-1 idea is really growing on me!!

Especially on a gorgeous Saturday like today. With over a year not dining out. I can see myself walking the Kingston shoreline, dining on a patio, bughousing!!

Any other comments very welcome, thanks!!

Aris, whatever the schedule, count me in for all 3 years.
Still kicking myself for missing the first one!

Awesome!! You're exactly the kind of lifelong chess nut that'll love 9 rounds!!

By the way, I'm looking to hire separate Fair Play Officers. If you hear of someone interested, then please have them email me. Already shopping for cool spy gear.

    Agree with Victor:
6 days schedule is better than 5 days, but 9 days is the best.
    Thanks,

I believe there was a poll about this back in 2019 - probably, its best to do what the majority prefers. My own preference is 5 days, 2-2-2-2-1, but I guess there are good reasons why the first day is not a double round day (work day?).

Oh yeah, I do keep polling, always trying to improve.

Thanks for your reply, and that's right, to play 2 rounds on the first day, most travellers would come in the night before, so the thinking has been to have a game on the first night in town, precisely because most players would have such a first night on town. I do like though how your formula has 1 game on the last day.

If you had to choose between 1-2-2-1-2-1 and 0-1-2-2-2-2, which one gets your vote?

(if anyone else wants to answer that question too, of course feel free, I'm interested!)

Thanks, arismarghetis at rogers dot com
