Tournaments in BC
For the last year or 2, unrated tournaments with quick time controls are getting more and more popular in the province, while there's a decrease in the # of tourneys with slower time controls. So far Mr. Aaron C, tournament director for the UBC Thurs. night swiss, is doing his job to keep the tournament alive (although the # of players at UBC has drastically dropped over the last few years), while the Keres last month was held in a packed room at sprott shaw.
Just wondering if CFC & BCCF officials as well as tournament directors would promote and run more tournaments with slower TCs in the province.
thanks in advance

Slower time control tmts...
... are subject to space availability/ rental agreements. In most cases this is prohibitive unless there's a schedule of once a week meetings in the same place and players can commit on showing up (at least) 5 weeks in a row to finish a tournament.
What slower time control do you have in mind?

Hey Berthold, I hope you are going to make it to the Langley open on the labor day weekend. It's always a lot of fun.

This has not been used for years and I doubt you could find too many willing to revive it. In my opinion the slowest you can hope for is: game in 90 minutes plus 30 seconds per move.

How about a free tournament (if you pay membership): 40/120, G/60 this weekend?
In North Seattle (2h driving): Emerald City Open, with 2 days option.
You can find details here:

It's quite similar to what will be used in the Closed though....

Hi Chris:
Don't suppose there's anything that can yet be made public about the " Closed " ?
