Canadian Junior Championship July 25 - 28 2009 Victoria BC Ten $250 Grants available


Accommodation grants for $250 each are available for Provincial Junior Champions. To obtain the grant, champions should send an email to Canadian Junior Awards Committee at cycc2009@gmail.com requesting the grant. The request should be sent before midnight June 14th, 2009. The email should include a short summary of performance at notable chess events including but not limited to the CYCC, Canadian Junior, and/or Canadian Chess Challenge. For provinces that did not hold a Provincial Junior Championship in the past year a combination of rating, recent performance and other results may be used to determine the award of a grant. There is one award available per province. Where there is more than one applicant from a province the award determination will be at the discretion of Victoria Junior Chess Society. There may or may not be an award if adequate criteria is not met. The Awards Committee may award more than one grant to one province.

Conditions of Grant

The grant will be applied toward the room cost at the Hotel Grand Pacific and will be paid as a credit toward the room cost.
Recipient must stay a minimum of 3 nights in the Hotel Grand Pacific to qualify.
Full participation in the Canadian Junior event is required.
Eligibility criteria for the Canadian Junior Championship must be met.

The award of a grant is at the discretion of the Victoria Junior Chess Society and decisions are final.



Eligibility:

Must be born in 1989 or later
Must have a CFC rating of >1800 or be a 2009 Provincial Junior Champion or submit a written application for permission to register (email to braymer@telus.net). The application should give a summary of chess performance that indicates a past performance of equal to or near 1800. Applications will be reviewed by the Canadian Junior organizing committee and decisions will be made within 4 weeks of receipt.
Must be a Canadian citizen or Permanent Canadian resident for at least 12 months. Players with any question about their own eligibility to compete should contact Ellen Nadeau, Canadian Youth Chess Coordinator at ellennadeau@yahoo.ca to verify eligibility. Failure to do so and not meeting the requirements could result in withdrawal from the tournament and/or ineligibility for awards.
The total number of participants may be limited. Qualified players should register early to ensure a space.
