I'm pleased to report that the rating system continues to be in good shape. No signs of inflation or deflation and the bonus point system continues to reward fast rising players, particularly juniors. Some sample statistics:
Average rating of all players above 1200 active in the past 12 months = 1729. Five year range = 1715 to 1750
Median rating of top 100 players active in past 36 months = 2356. Five year range = 2336 to 2356
Average rating of all players active in the past 12 months = 1347. Five year range = 1190 to 1408

Hi Paul. Way back when, the rating system had a provision that players with Ro under 1200, but had a performance rating (based on 5+ games) > Ro would be assigned the new Rp as Rn. Players whose Rp was over 1200, would have their Ro shifted to 1200.

One severe problem I saw with ratings for the CYCC was the number of woefully underrated kids in U8 and U10. I'm thinking that a variation of the old rule - maybe to take them up to 800, 900, or 1000 might be considered, depending on their Rp.
