2012 Panamerican Youth started yesterday in Peru, so far are no pairing or results posted. On the facebook picture album, I notice some USA players, but no Canadians.

Lily Zhou and Melissa Lee from Windsor are in Peru, I don't know about any others. My understanding is that today is a blitz tournament, and the first round of the PanAm is tomorrow.

I find out that are 5 players, those John mentioned, plus Tanraj Sohal (BC), Alexandru Florea (ON) and one more player in U14 Open.

I received an email... paraphrasing and very much condensing:

The Canadians had a difficult time getting settled on arrival in Peru. When they arrived at their hotel, after many adventures and inconveniences, "it turns out to be the worst hotel we've ever seen, the hotel is too dirty and broken to stay".

The Canadians then took taxis to another hotel, and after "talking" to the president of the organising committee (I hate to imagine the discussion, well after midnight, him with no English, and our guys with no Spanish), they got rooms for an additional $200 per person... they checked in at 3.30 am local time, so it's a good thing the first day was a blitz competition, not the start of the regular tournament.
