Scarborough CC started its new season on Sept. 10 with the 8 round Howard Ridout Memorial Swiss. Our tournaments are divided into two sections: Open Section ( usually players above 1700, but any member can play up regardless of rating ); U 1700. We have 43 players registered for the Open section and 24 for the U 1700 - this is slightly fewer than last year, where we were averaging in the low to mid 70's.
The Open section is very strong this year - we have 7 masters, including the top rated female player in Canada, WFM Yuanling Yuan, and 5 experts, a few of whom are former masters.
This year we are using carbonless score sheets, and all score sheets are being collected and put into the master SCC Games Database - an awesome piece of history for future SCC'ers. All members get a copy of the database after each tournament. The best games are published in our club newsletter.
As well, 2010 is our 50th anniversary year, and we will be marking the occasion with a one day tournament, celebrations, politician guests from Scarborough, invitations sent to all the past SCC'ers for whom we have e-mail addresses, etc.
We are looking forward to a good 2009-10 year.
