This is a poll to see what area of organized chess respondents think will be most noticed in Canada in 2023.

Hi Kevin,

I didn't vote and I don't know. Juniors are always the favourite / most likely initiative for obvious reasons.

However, there's some elements that suggest that women's chess can have a boost:
- newly started women's chess club in Greater Toronto
- post-pandemic Queen's Gambit effect (?)
- post-pandemic online streaming having an effect across the world chess - especially in Canada, when some of Canada's top women players have created a sensation in the world of twitch and youtube

All in all, I have seen more women at local clubs and chess activities, than prior to the pandemic. At least in the Greater Toronto Area. And not just juniors, adult women as well.

I hope junior, female and adult CFC membership levels all go up. Don't know if adult membership has been considerably less percentage-wise for years now, but the poll allows for even something sharply negative happening this year to possibly be counted as quite noticeable (poll answers being restricted to a maximum number of 10 choices). I didn't bother to include controversies in Canadian chess message boards/meetings/(tournament incidents) as an option(s) explicitly, but such could fall under 'some other area' of organized Canadian chess.

It would seem to me that in 2023, CFC membership levels (4000+ - Juniors in particular!?) was the thing most noticed in national organized chess.

Organized outdoor chess will continue to be extremely popular. It is free, accessible and fun. I have great numbers of people coming out for my free outdoor/cafe events.
