I received the following announcement from FIDE. We are aware of only a few individuals who might qualify for this olympiad. If you believe that you might qualify or know of someone who might qualify please contact the CFC and let us know by sending an email to both (admin@chess.ca and vdrkulec@hotmail.com).

Dear Member Federations:

We are happy to inform you that the 1st FIDE Online Olympiad for People with Disabilities will take place from November 20 to December 3, 2020.

Please note that each member Federation can register between one and four teams, depending on the number of players with disabilities that are members of that federation:

Up to 50 players: 1 team
Between 50 and 75 players: 2 teams
Between 76 and 100 players: 3 teams
101 or more players: 4 teams

Please note that all participants have to be previously registered in the directory of players with disabilities at the DIS website. All your team members must be included in the database: this is a mandatory condition to be a participant in the event.

Please share this information with the responsible person from your federation who will be appointed the Manager of the Team/s to start the inclusion of your chess players in the FIDE Database and make the registration process for the Online Olympiad later on.

The qualification stage is over. Team Canada, being ranked 33rd at the start, finished in the 33rd place (http://chess-results.com/tnr539368.aspx?lan=1&art=0&rd=7&turdet=YES&flag=30) exactly, ahead of such higher-ranked teams from traditional chess countries as France and Belarus. (All results are provisional, pending Fair Play control.)

Thank you as well to Richard Berube and the FQE for your work before, during and after the tournament. Richard led the team as team captain and also was instrumental in assembling the team. Thank you to the players for your fighting spirit. Thank you to Vadim Tsypin, the National Chess Federation of the Philippinse, FIDE and the members of the presidential board for helping Gilbert Perez quickly change federations to play in this event. I hope everyone enjoyed the experience provided by playing in this event.
