2020 RA Chess Club Championship January 23

I am pleased to announce that the RA Chess Club Championship starts Thursday January 23rd and runs for seven weeks ending March 5th.

We are playing for the RA Chess Club Championship Cup and the $500 Ritchie prize. You must be an RA member to play in this tournament.

The RA Club Champion will perform a simultaneous at the annual meeting in May.

Please e-mail ahead to fs889@ncf.ca or show up at least 10-15 minutes before the round if you are joining the tournament for the first time.

For those who don't know, Halldor was also just awarded his FA title from FIDE.

Here's what I wrote previously:

Halldor has have deserved the title for a very long time. For those who don't know yet, not only does Halldor run all the Ottawa weekenders, but also very many of the RA Thursday night gatherings. Last night was another example, where the room is just packed with so many players (like myself) getting in a great long rated game. And as usual, it happens because Halldor takes care of everything, and I mean everything. Halldor's contributions have been so incredible, for so long, that the RA Chess Club membership has decided to declare Halldor as an honourary lifetime member. The look on everyone's faces as they applauded last night was a great moment.
