Maroun Tomb, a super-nice gentleman residing in Montreal, has successfully passed the trials and was selected to represent Lebanon at the 43rd Olympiad.

Maroun is a familiar face on the Canadian chess stage. He played in the 2017 Canadian Closed, the 2018 Canadian Open and many other events in Ontario and Quebec.

Good luck Maroun in Batumi!

Not the first time a Montrealer has represented Lebanon at the Olympiads:

Nassim Sakr (or Sakre) lived for a time in Montreal (along with his brother Wissam) - maybe he still does? He played in the recent Laval Open.

Charaf Bassel (or Bassel Charaf - depending on your source) represented Lebanon in 2016. He has played regularly in Montreal events the last couple of years.

Neither will play in the 2018 Olympiad.

Thanks Hugh for this excellent historical footnote.

The correct usage is: "Bassel" - first name, "Charaf" - surname. He told me himself long time ago. :)
