I am in receipt of the following bid from Gary Hua and Mikhail Egorov: (please note the file attachments which are the bid proper)

Dear All,

Referring to the above matter, Mikhail and myself would like to submit our bid for next year Canadian Junior and 2019 as well.

This tournament was last held in 2013 before we ran the tournament last week ( Aug 9-13, 2017 ). The winners were Richard Chen ( boy ) and Cynthia Cui ( girl ). We had a great response from the parents and the players and the total number of players were 95 exceeding our expectation of 50 players. We ensure that the players had a great playing condition with 4 new portable air-conditions. Most of the top juniors in Ontario participated and final result was Richard Chen ( highest rated ) and Eugene Hua ( 2nd highest rated ) came in first and second ( they are top ten juniors in Canada )

At the end of the tournament, we had a survey among the parents and players and the response were very encouraging.

We would like to improve on this year tournament by making next year tournament a much bigger and better one as well. We hope to have the top 5 juniors in Canada joining next year alongside with Quebec / BC and Ontario youth champions.

We create a new section- An invitation section where we will have 7 boys and 3 girls of the best juniors in Canada ( from all provinces ) . The winners ( boy and girl ) will then get to represent Canada in Turkey ( 2018 ).

There will be 4 sections - Invitation, Open, U-1800 and U-1300 sections where we believe all the sections will be equally competitive for the players. The arbiter of the tournament will be IA Danny Goldenberg who did a great job in this year CJCC. The date of the tournament will not clash with other tournaments next year. It will be again after Canadian Amateur in Kitchener chess festival.

We intend to get a better venue ( possibly Sheridan college ( Oakville ) or U of T ( Missisauga campus ) to replace our current venue at the Erin Mills United church.

We also intend to get a new Winner's trophy to engrave winners from 2013 to current of our bid is accepted.

In 2019, we may stage in other province for example Montreal, Quebec if we could get a good venue there. If we could not find one, then we will stage it again in Sheridan college ( Oakville )

Hope you guys will consider our bid for the benefit of Canadian Junior chess.

Thanks

Gary Hua

Calgary was considering bidding for the Calgary Junior. We decided to not bid for 2018, however, may bid for 2019. Given that it is two years away and we would need some more time to prepare for a possible bid, I would ask CFC not to vote on the 2019 Canadian Junior until next year. We should know by this Spring as that would come after Alberta Chess Association's budget meeting.

From FIDE website (http://www.fide.com/index.php?option=com_fidecalendar&view=fidecalendar&ny=2018):
World Junior and Girls U20 Championship 2018 Manavgat-Antalya, Turkey 15-Sep-2018 29-Sep-2018

Is it enough time after Canadian Junior conclusion (Aug 12) to register winners for World Junior which starts Sep 15?
Is there any chance to hold Canadian Junior earlier?

Most of the time we want these tournaments to occur in the summer when all the kids are off school. I believe India and other countries move the qualification into the previous year and adjust the age groups of their qualifying tournament in order to allow the kids to play in the World Youth etc. the next time it is played. We should probably consider doing something similar.

In Alberta we do the Junior Championship for the following year in November. Basically, it turns into a 19 and under tournament.
