The CFC Regular Chess Post – February 20/14 – Partial Canadian Chess Olympiad Teams’ Members Announced.

Canadian Teams’ Chess Olympiad Update: Committee Selections, Captains

Each team, National and Women’s, has 5 members, 4 for the team and one alternate. The alternate often plays a number of games, to give team members a break, or replace someone who is struggling.

Three players of the team are by rating, and 1 is by Selection Committee. The Selection Committee also chooses the alternate. They also choose a second alternate in case of drop-outs, but otherwise this second alternate does not go with the teams. As well they coordinate the selection of the team captains.

Here is the report of CFC FIDE Rep., IA Hal Bond, on the work of the Selection Committee.
“Our Olympic Selection Committee has completed their work. Thank you Brian Hartman, Richard Berube and Vlad Pechenkin for your service!

We expect shortly we will know who of the eligible team members by rating have accepted their invitations. There are a number selected by rating, who traditionally have declined to play, allowing CFC to then move down the rating list with further invitations sent out.

We will keep you advised as team members’ names become made public.
