The Washington International returns for a second year to Rockville, MD from August 6 -11.
Player feedback (http://www.mdchess.com/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=125:2012-washington-international-survery&catid=29&Itemid=40) from last year's event (won by Gata Kamsky) was overwhelmingly positive. The 9-round Swiss A section has $22,000 in guaranteed prizes and will provide an opportunity for players to earn GM and IM norms. Some of the unique features of the tournament are:
Minimum prizes available for all non-US FIDE rated players
All Equipment is provided
Continental Breakfast before morning rounds
Minimum 2100 FIDE required to play in A section
Complementary Hospitality room for everyone Monday afternoon, August 5th
$50 discount for players over age 50 in A section
B section with same schedule, allowing anyone to play
9 GMs and 6 IMs are already registered.
