1. Pre-registrations already accepted:

FIDE-rated Players: Alex Ferreira – 1985 ( FIDE ) ; 2051 ( CFC )
Non-FIDE-rated Players: Mario Moran-Venegas – 1778; Bob Armstrong – 1642 ( has a FIDE Rating “ part result “ of 5 games )

2. Pre-registrants in the “ Pools “:

FIDE-rated Players: Tyler Longo - 1956( FIDE ); 2065 ( CFC ).
Non-FIDE-rated Players: Yinshi ( John ) Li 1985; Yanchun Zhao 1616

The tournament is an “ Invitational “. The process we are following is that we are putting all new registrants from now to August 31 ( final day of registration ) into the pools – in effect, all registrations are “ conditional “ on final acceptance. If we just have enough to fill the places in the pool, then all the registrants get in. If there are more registrants than places in the pool, then we will choose which registrants to use to fill the vacancies, based on ratings that will make the tournament most competitive, and which give the non-FIDE-rated players the best chance to get a “ part result “.

Looking for 2 more FIDE-rated players! Get some good competition, win some Elo points, and pick up a little spending money - seems like a good deal!! ( note: without 4 FIDE-rated players, the tournament cannot be registered with FIDE, nor FIDE-rated - in such case, it will not go head ).

Hi to " Battle " Registrants:

We closed registrations at Monday midnight as planned, and had less than the number we needed - we have 7, but need 8 ( # 8 can be either FIDE-rated or non-FIDE-rated ).

Alex Ferreira, as arbiter for the tournament ( and player ), and I, discussed what to do about the tournament. We decided to go ahead and register it with FIDE this week ( Alex, as arbiter, is looking after that task ). It apparently does not cost to register. And if by Oct. 15 we do not have the needed player, we will simply have to cancel the tournament, and de-register it with FIDE, which I assume also can be done at no charge, and without negative consequences. Alex will be speaking with Gerry Litchfield, CFC ED, and maybe he can confirm these two points with him.

Therefore, all pre-registrations have now been accepted, and all are in the tournament. Here are the 7 players so far:

FIDE-rated Players:

Master Michael Dougherty : 2149 ( FIDE ); 2275 ( CFC )
Master Mike Ivanov: 2050 ( FIDE ); 2270 ( CFC )
Alex Ferreira – 1985 ( FIDE ) ; 2051 ( CFC )
Tyler Longo - 1956( FIDE ); 2065 ( CFC ).

Non-FIDE-rated Players:

Mario Moran-Venegas – 1778;
Bob Armstrong – 1642 ( has a FIDE Rating “ part result “ of 6 games )
Marcus Wilker 1639

.....

So if you think someone might be interested, please approach them. The most recent flyer is attached ( see below ). The last entry will be on a " first come - first served " basis. The CFC rating must be 1600 or over; the FIDE rating cannot exceed 2199.

If anyone has any questions, let me know.

Thx, and I'm still hopeful of finding our last player.

Canadian Chess Consulting Service ( CCCS ) has now registered the 8th and last player for The Battle of Toronto Invitational.

However, we are now preparing a back-up list. If you still would like to play, you can ask to be on this list, and if for some unexpected reason a registered player drops out before the tournament starts on October 15 ( life throws curves at us all the time ), then we will come to you first as a replacement. It will be on a " first come - first served " basis.

Contact: CCCS : canadianchessconsultingservice@gmail.com

Thx.

Canadian Chess Consulting Service ( CCCS ) has today sent the information required to CFC, to register The Battle of Toronto with FIDE. It starts Oct. 15 at Annex CC, in Toronto.

We now have two players on the " Back-up List ", one FIDE-rated, and one not. We are still open to adding players to the list. From this list, in order of registering, we will choose a replacement, should any of our 8 players unexpectedly have to withdraw before the start date. Though there may be names ahead of you, when called on, their cirumstances could have changed, and they might be unable to play. Then we go to the next name on the list.

Sure enough, we have now had to call on the # 1 on the back-up list to substitute for a withdrawal, and he is now in the tournament.

So now we have only one player on the back-up list, and we are trying to confirm with him that he still wishes to be on the list , as now # 1. If we do not hear from him by the deadline set, then he will be removed, and the list will be clear for a new # 1.

If you'd like to get on the list as # 2, at the moment, please contact: CCCS : canadianchessconsultingservice@gmail.com

We have again had a change of registrants, and taken the # 1 player on the back-up list into the tournament. Here is the current registration ( tournament to start on Oct. 15 at Annex CC in Toronto ):

Registrations:

FIDE-rated Players:

Master Michael Dougherty : 2149 ( FIDE ); 2275 ( CFC )
Wajdy Shebetah: 2018 ( FIDE ); 2132 ( CFC )
Alex Ferreira – 1985 ( FIDE ) ; 2051 ( CFC )
Tyler Longo - 1956( FIDE ); 2065 ( CFC )
Robert Bzikot – 1881 ( FIDE ); 1940 ( CFC )

Non-FIDE-rated Players:

Mario Moran-Venegas – 1778;
Bob Armstrong – 1652 ( has a FIDE Rating “ part result “ of 6 games )
Zaki Uddin - 1631

We currently have again now, one player on the Back-up List ( to be confirmed ). We go to the back-up list in case of a withdrawal before Oct. 15. Getting onto the back-up list is on a first come-first served basis. If you would like to play in the tournament still, if possible, and would like to be # 2 on the Back-up List, please contact me at: canadianchessconsultingservice@gmail.com.

We have now had an application to go onto our " back-up " list and the person is # 1. He is Jonathan Farine: 1886 ( FIDE ); 1952 ( CFC ). We go to our back-up list if anyone should unexpectedly be forced to withdraw before Oct. 15 ( Rd. 1 ). It will be played at the Annex CC.

If you are interested in playing, we'd be glad to add you as # 2. Just contact me: canadianchessconsultingservice@gmail.com.
