I'm going to jump right in today with the news, no apologies for my column's whereabouts for the last month or so, etc, etc.

After 5 out of 9 rounds in Dortmund, Kramnik, Ponomariov, and Karjakin are tied for 1st with 3.5/5. Kramnik has virtually owned this event over the years.... Today was the rest day - action picks up tomorrow. Live action is available on the major news sites. Other top names include Caruana, Leko, and Naiditsch.

The ACP is sponsoring an interesting tournament in Amsterdam. Adjournments after 5 hours of play !! Called the Golden Classic, Ivanchuk is the early leader with 2.5/3 in this short 7 player event. Kamsky, Jobava, and Sasikiran round out the 2700+ contingent.

Magnus Carlsen is back in action this weekend as a last minute "pick-up" at the Biel Chess Festival. He joins Nakamura and Morozevich as top 10 participants in the 6 player DRR.

The final selections for the Grand Prix were announced today. More on that next time.
