CCC Discusses Chess - Posts of Interest - WCC - Psychology & Media

An interesting post from one of my " LinkedIn " groups:

GM Gelfand has the psychological advantage in this match. As the underdog, he escapes the sharp cutlass of public criticism. For GM Anand, any slight error will be rehashed endlessly by the sportsmedia. The hot spotlight of public pressure is focused on Anand, and not on his opponent. This is bound to be a factor -- it has hurt him in past championship matches. Gelfand has little to lose; any unexpected brilliance on his part will amplify the psychological advantage; any minor slip by Anand will be blown out of proportion. There is also a rumor that Gelfand has been quietly studying the Bible Codes in connection with his strategy for this match. I think his chances have been grossly underes...timated -- as we are seeing already.
