I see the new website is up.

One item I can't find is the TD List, which was the comma delimited list of everyone's name CFC number, rating and expirey date. Some TDs (including someone who called me today) still use those lists and pair tournaments by hand. It needs to be put back on.

Best Regards,
Garland Best

An interim solution would be to load swisssys and then the mde file can be used.

As it is, everybody can be accessed via entering their name as always. Those members within the past 6 months can be located on the regional list for a province.

Hi Fred,

There are events held in locations without internet access, so when you are taking entries you need a easily accessible list. That said, there are also those events and directors who just don't feel good at using swisssys. Furthermore I heard that a TD was unable to get the most recent swisssys database file to work correctly. For that reason having the extra file accessible is very useful.

In addition, having the file downloadable makes it easy to update club listings

It should be trivial to add one link to the site that a person clicks on to get the file. Please include it. Thanks.

I completely agree with Garland and always make a point of having the current TD list (text file) on my laptop at all times for quick reference and at times on site when "the internet" goes down -- great to have the complete list to reference! :)

I am confident the CFC will fine tune the glitches and get the new site back up and running and with the necessary tools we require.

Keep up the good work -- Fred and team!:)

The TD list is available on the new web site (which should be back shortly), but in a different place.

Go to 1) Misc - 2) Downloadable Resources - 3) TD Resources and Forms

The file is there to be viewed or downloaded by rightclicking.

I'll work on getting this available from the Ratings page......

I'll work on getting this available from the Ratings page......YOU are going to work on it, Fred?? What happened to the beer-and-pizza company we hired as programmers?

I understood his statement to mean he would pass the recommendation along...

Anyway, as crushing as the omission of the sacred file may be, I was able to help Aris on Friday by downloading the .mde file that was offered along with the SwissSys software and export that to text file so that Aris could have a least a reasonably recent "tdlist".

I think offering an "export text file NOW" button on the ratings main page would let anyone generate an up-to-the-moment export of the critical pieces from the ratings database... of course, the alternative - having a (weekly?) tdlist file available could be a reasonable compromise.

It is more concerning that the new website is still offline ... at least it was when I started this post... :)

I don't know if this was a rhetorical question or not, John - but this sounds like a simple copying some text from one location to another.

That is now our responsibility. They have provided us with a starting site and modify it anyway we see fit.

Who have modified it to an unworkable condition?

{modifying the website}... is now our responsibility. They have provided us with a starting site and {we ?} modify it anyway we see fit.You mean, the programming company is now done?? The non-working site we currently have is the result of $18,000 worth of work!

I know this is a tad off topic, but its not just the tdlist that’s a problem. The top lists don't work either (under players) and there are a few other things that seem to not work (for instance players by province) or even the ratings or looking up tournaments.... Are they just walking away from an unfinished project?

The website came back up this afternoon. The rating search isn't working. It's an obvious glitch and IS CLEARLY NOT OUR RESPONSIBILITY. I expect this will be fixed in the AM BY THE PROGRAMMER's.

Just chill out people.

If you need to see a specific rating go to the entire list. I explained how to get it a few posts ago.

I just got an email from programmers.
They identified the problem, and fixed it.
Try it again folks, and keep your fingers crossed. :)

Yes, yes, still some spelling mistakes and editing to do, but stuff should be working okay now.

imho, the high-number-round tournament crosstables do no render well.

I would prefer to have a search option bellow the table and to use a freed right space for crosstables.

Any definition by which Kevin Spraggett is considered inactive is ridiculous

I took "inactive" to be related to playing in Canadian tournaments... anyone else think the same? The last time he played in Canada was 2004. Maybe the definition of "inactive" should include a specific cut off date? 10 years, not 7-ish?

The definition of active and inactive is given in the main menu for Who's Who.

Thanks. I didn't see that since I did not go to the main menu page for "Who's Who"
(I selected what I wanted from the drop down list...)

So, "Not active in Canadian play since Jan 1, 2008" is the criteria... presumably that will move to 2009 next year?

1) Yes. The format is messy if you are trying to find columns of rounds. We can probably work on changing this a bit over time.

2) I think I have fixed the English version now.

3) Yes, and 2 new elite player Governors. To do list.

4) SwissSys subscription - I'll check that out.

5) Yes. People will find lots of things over time. For example if you click on the >> symbol on National tournaments header you see something else !

6) FIDE - I'm not sure what you mean here

7) Active and inactive explained on Who's Who main menu. Could be altered.

8) Yes. The existing photo galleries were just examples that the contractor did up from the bio pics.

9) External credits. I tried to do this - I'll have a look at that.

10) Waiting for Associations to submit their info. I can probably do some editing.

Thanks for the detailed comments.

Thank you Fred and Kerry for the explanation of who is active.
I would just add that we have receive numerous complaints over the years that our top player lists included players who had not played in Canadian tournaments for many years. The members are more interested in who are the top players active in Canadian Chess now. Since this is a Canadian ratings database, the definition of active should obviously mean active in Canada. :)

If you want to get a complete list, including players currently inactive on the Canadian Chess scene, the options are there.

The site is running well, as far as I can tell. Even the French accents are showing correctly! A search for "Hebert" now returns Jean Hébert, amongst others. Jean will be happy he hasn't been consigned to limbo.

oops, spoke too soon, the French accents in crosstables are not displaying correctly. Also, the name of this player 136300 is not displaying correctly (the name has TWO accents, double trouble).

Yes, the accented names in crosstables are probably a global issue, that we will work on sorting out - with a macro or something.

I think I've corrected all of the accents in the biographies, etc.
