Wouldn't Mark have enough FIDE games ?

The handbook says 10 games, was this changed to 20 ?

Can you define the periods used for the rating, and accumulating games played, if different

It's showing Mark at 0 games.

Mark has played enough FIDE rated games but they have not yet appeared on the FIDE rating list.

My bad... It should be 10 games. I'll fix this in the next update.

These are games played after March 1, 2011 and appeared on FIDE or CFC rating lists. The table shows accumulated games.

OK, but the 10 game requirement would not require games to appear on a rating list by Mar 1, 2012. Just as long as they are actually played by that date. For example if somebody played in a FIDE event that finished Feb 27, 2012 then those games should count toward the 10 game requirement, but likely won't count for rating purposes. Correct ?

Games should be rated not only played. The CFC case is quite clear - every Thursday results are processed and ratings are updated. FIDE case is more complicated.

The handbook is pretty clear that the games only have to be played, it does not say they have to be rated.

I still disagree with your interpretation, but I wouldn't think anyone will be leaving it til the last minute.

I'd like to hear Ilia's interpretation.

I still disagree with your interpretation, but I wouldn't think anyone will be leaving it til the last minute.

I'd like to hear Ilia's interpretation.

Section 1206aiii of the handbook cited by Egis talks about 2 things: a) games must be CFC of FIDE rated and b) must be played during the year prior to the start of the selection process (which begins 180 days before the start of the Olympiad).
The selection process will start on March 1, 2012. (180 days before the Olympiad that starts Aug 27, 2012). So I will include all rated (CFC or FIDE) games played between March 1, 2011 and March 1, 2012. If a game is played before March 1, 2012 and rated later, say, on April 1st, it will be included in the Final Selection Rating list.

KS has made his suggestions on his blog for what they are worth.

His picks might carry more credibility if they weren't accompanied by suggestions that

1) someone is buying their way onto the team and

2) we now throw away the rules, at the same time condemning us for past rule breaking (his interpretation) and likely future rule breaking.

Condemning, and rightfully so.
