Zonals, Continentals and all that jazz
FIDE seems to have settled on a two year championship cycle, recenty with the mammoth 128 player World Cup being one of the centrepiece events.
Right now players in Europe are playing for approximately twenty spots in this event, while Pan-America and Asia have upcoming events as well.
In the Americas all of the old zones are still operating, as well as a Continental event in Mexico next month. Qualifiers for US and Canada (both zones) will also be starting soon.
