Default 2010-11 Budget - Revision to be Presented

In mid-March, Treasurer Maurice Smith of the prior administration, presented to the governors the 2010-11 budget, which was to start May 1. On July 13, the new administration of President Bob Gillanders was elected.

Bob G. has now advised that the new administration will give the existing budget " the appropriate weight ", but that they do wish to tweak it a bit. So he has undertaken to present to the CFC Governors for approval, a " revised " budget by Aug. 31. This seems emminently reasonable, since there may be slightly differing priorities in the new administration.

Bob G. also has now dealt with the issue of the outstanding March 31 governors vote on the original budget, and so that issue is now put to bed ( it appears the governors failed to vote on the budget in sufficient numbers to reach a quorum, and so the result was not binding - a sad commentary on governor responsibility ).

Bob G. is to be commended for dealing with an issue that had dragged on much longer than necessary, and for giving a clear explanation of his decision and future plans. Good communication will help the CFC greatly, to move forward. Thanks Bob.

Bob A.

Default A Pre-Budget Consultation !

It is significant to note that the new admininstration is in excellent communication mode. Treasurer Fred McKim is now canvassing governors on the Governors' Discussion Board, for input into possible items for the " revised 2010-11 budget ". This consultation is one that did not take place for the original 2010-11 budget - it was simply prepared by the last executive, and presented to the governors in March of this year as complete, and to be voted on ( though Treasurer at the time, Maurice Smith, was good at answering governors questions in the budget debate, before the March 31 vote on the budget ).

So kudos to the new administration for meaningful consultation with the govnernors, going forward.

Bob
