Here is a contrarian's view of the World Junior Chess Championship ( from Mig Greengard's Daily Dirt Chess Blog ):
" I keep wondering at the relevance of this event [ the WJCC ], but plenty of strong players keep showing up. With such a high age limit and so many top players in the world under it these days who don't bother to play, it seems an anachronism. But I suppose as long as they keep finding organizers to profiteer host the event and players keep showing up, it does no harm. It's a nice plum for the world's many national junior events. "
Regardless, I still think this tournament is great international experience for a Canadian Junior, and CFC has to find a way to be able to send a representative in a year when our Canadian Junior Champion is not attending.
