    Default Changes to FIDE rating regulations

    https://www.fide.com/news/2784

    Major points.

    1. One time bonus for every 2000- player. New rating = old rating + 0.4 x (2000 - old rating). For example, 1500 becomes 1700, 1700 becomes 1820, 2000 remains 2000.

    2. Rating floor 1400 instead of 1000.

    3. 400 points rule has no limitations (now just for 1 game/tournament).

    Victor,
    For unrated players, what happens if some of the 5 games happen before the change and some of the games happen after the change?

    Good question. Right now, I don't have a clear answer.

    This is probably a question for Ian, but I'm also wondering if there will be an update to this policy: https://www.chess.ca/en/news/2020/09...nversion-rate/

    Here's what US Chess has announced:

    This note is an update to the announcement on 12.20.2023 about the updated FIDE-to-US Chess rating conversion formula that reflects the imminent changes to the FIDE rating system. FIDE indicated on 12.22.2023 (https://www.fide.com/news/2815) in its list of decisions from the 2023 3rd FIDE Council Meeting from earlier this month that the adjustments to the FIDE rating system will take effect on March 1, 2024, not on January 1 as previously communicated. The US Chess formulas to convert FIDE ratings to US Chess ratings that we included in Wednesday's note will therefore also be effective as of March 1.

    In addition to the formula in Wednesday's announcement for converting FIDE ratings to US Chess ratings, the rating system specifications have a separate conversion formula for FIDE youth events - see page 14 of https://new.uschess.org/sites/default/files/media/documents/the-us-chess-rating-system-revised-september-2020.pdf . This formula will be replaced with the following:

    USChess = 1168 + 0.456*FIDE if FIDE <= 2000
    USChess = 80 + 1.0*FIDE if FIDE > 2000

    The above formula will also go into effect on March 1, 2024.

    1. will come first, and then 2 in the reform, right?
    Thus if players have 1000 -> 1400 by the formula, and they would still be FIDE rated afterwords.

    Ratings Deflation - FIDE adjustment delayed until March 2024

    Well then, CFC goes first then in a small step.
    For tomorrow's regular weekly update, CFC will take a small first step to combat the deflation problem.

    We are starting on the shallow end of the pool, for those players rated 200-499 will have their ratings raised to 500.
    This will include all players active in the last 2 years and will apply to both regular and quick ratings.
    It will affect approximately 1,600 players.

    Those affected immediately will be mostly quick rated juniors in junior clubs. But there should be a gentle cascade effect upwards thru the pool over time.
    We will be monitoring the effect and feedback from the chess community.

    Happy New Year everyone.

    The FIDE rating update for March 1 is done.
    The deflation adjustment has been included.

    In a nutshell, for those between 1000 and 2000, you should be 40% closer to 2000 than before.

    My rating before adjustment 1,541 - 459 points away from 2000.

    459 x 40% = 184

    My new FIDE rating = 1,541 + 184 = 1,725.

    Hurrah !!
