Ladies and gentlemen, esteemed members of the Chess Federation of Canada,

I stand before you today with enthusiasm and pride as we convene to discuss the remarkable journey of our federation, a journey that has been marked by some recent success and an unwavering commitment to the game we all hold so dear.

In the chess world, change is often measured in moves, but today, we are here to discuss a different kind of progress — one that is measured in the growth of our federation, the expansion of our community, and the passion we all share for the noble game of chess.

I am thrilled to announce that our federation has experienced an extraordinary year-over-year growth in memberships, a staggering 60 percent increase. Today, we proudly count over 4000 members among our ranks, a number that signifies a thirty-year high in our organization's history. This remarkable surge in our membership base is a testament to the enduring appeal of chess in Canada.

It is worth noting that our membership fees have remained unchanged for over a dozen years. Adults have continued to pay just $36 per year, while juniors contribute only $24 annually. This commitment to affordability has undoubtedly played a pivotal role in fostering the growth of our federation, making chess accessible to enthusiasts of all ages and backgrounds.

Chess has not only thrived within our federation but has also taken root in the hearts and minds of Canadians across the country. The surge in online chess participation has been nothing short of astonishing. We believe that potentially hundreds of thousands, if not over a million, Canadians have found solace and joy in the intricate dance of pieces on the virtual board. Chess is now firmly embedded in the Canadian consciousness, a symbol of strategy, intellect, and community.

In April 2024, we will have the distinct honor of hosting the prestigious FIDE Candidates Tournament in the vibrant city of Toronto. This world-class event will shine a global spotlight on Canadian chess and solidify our position as a prominent player on the international chess stage.

The narrative we weave today is one of unparalleled growth, accessibility, and the unwavering commitment of our members to and love for the game of chess. Together, we have fostered a community that continues to thrive and a sport that captures the hearts and minds of Canadians across the nation. As we look ahead to the FIDE Candidates Tournament and beyond, let us remember that our journey has only just begun, and together, we will continue to make history in the world of chess.
Thank you for your dedication, your passion, and your unwavering support. Let this meeting be a testament to the strength and unity of the Chess Federation of Canada, as we embark on the next chapter of our remarkable story.

In this outgoing meeting we look back on the past year and what has been. In the incoming meeting we look to the future. Lets get this party started.

This is great news. Chess popularity had been on the decline for many years. Now it seems to be growing again. I know this is cyclical and a lot had to do with the Queen's Gambit, but there are a lot of volunteers out there who work very hard and it is nice to see
    success. Congratulations Vlad and everyone!

I think the pandemic also had a lot to do with it. People tried online chess when locked down and liked the challenge.
