Netflix TV mini-series has more Calgarians checking out chess than in decades
A Netflix TV mini-series called Queen's Gambit has more Calgarians checking out chess than they have in decades, says a CBC report. Who says chess and TV don't mix, CFC aside? What's a way to present the game successfully? How about having female chess stars!:

Here's an old CFC chat forum thread re: ways organized chess in Canada might ever be further developed with the assistance of extra big $$$ (includes discussion of TV advertising, link to a thread mentioning TV shows) - anyway, thanks to Queen's Gambit, the CFC just may reap benefits possibly without having lifted a finger(?), which may happen now and then historically in Canada (the CFC or its website was not mentioned in the CBC's report, which included a couple of Canadian female players - far from everyone thinks of 'simply' Googling 'Chess Canada', as I've found):
