    "2009 Canadian Youth Chess Championship

    Prizes
    Winners of each combined section and each section with 8 or more players receive $1000 toward expenses for their trip to Turkey to participate in the World Youth Chess Championship 2009. The WYCC are providing free board (meals and lodging) for winners of the 12 categories. More funding toward expenses will be provided to the winners if finances permit.



    Players who register before May 15th will receive a free T Shirt specially designed for the 2009 CYCC and Summer Chess Fest. Make sure to include your size when registering.

    Canadian Youth Chess Championships 2009

    This year's CYCC attracted a total of one hundred and twenty-nine players, competing in two-year age categories further divided by gender. The trophy winners were as follows; additionally B.C.'s Joanne Foote and Janak Awatramani tied for fourth in their respective sections but lost the playoffs. The below players qualify for the world competition, returning this year to Kemer-Antalya, Turkey, in November.

    The Canadian Youth Chess Championship (CYCC) is a qualifier for the World Youth Chess Championships to be held in Turkey in the fall of 2009. This is the second CYCC to be held in Victoria, BC. Many extras are being planned for the 2009 CYCC. We would appreciate any suggestions you have that will help make the CYCC a success and an enjoyable event for you and your family.     Dates: July 21 - 24, 2009

    Place: Victoria, BC

    Tournament site: Hotel Grand Pacific located in downtown Victoria on the inner harbour.

    Registration: $175 ($200 after May 15, $225 after June 15th).

    Chief Arbiter: Mark S. Dutton, International Arbiter (I.A.)

    Time Control: Game 90 minutes plus 30 seconds per move

    Schedule: 7 Round Swiss or Round Robin. Sections with less than 8 players
    will be combined at Tournament Director discretion.
    Round times are subject to revision. July 21 - Opening
    ceremony at 11:50 am, 12 noon and 5pm rounds 1-2; July 22 - 10am and
    3pm rounds 3-4; July 23 - 10am and 3 pm rounds 5-6; July 24 round 7 at
    10am, Closing ceremony at around 3:30 pm.

    Sections: U18, U16, U14, U12, U10, U8 Open and girls. Sections with less than 8 players will be combined at Tournament Director's discretion. Section by age Born in 1991,1992 U18. Born in 1993,1994 U16. Born in 1995,1996 U14. Born in 1997,1998 U12 Born in 1999,2000 U10. Born in 2001 or later U8. 2 sections in each age age group. Open or girls only. Girls may play in Open

    Eligibility: Must be a Canadian citizen or Permanent Canadian resident for at least 12 months. Players with any question about their own eligibility to compete should contact Ellen Nadeau, Canadian Youth Chess Coordinator at ellennadeau@yahoo.ca to verify eligibility. Failure to do so and not meeting the requirements could result in withdrawal from the tournament and/or ineligibility for awards.

    Thank you, Mark, for an excellently ran tournament!

    As a new CFC Youth Coordinator, I congratulate all the winners and invite the players who qualify for the WYCC to contact me by email: barron045 (at) yahoo (dot) com regarding trip to Turkey.

    In addition, the CFC is looking for a coach to go to WYCC with Canadian delegation.
