    Default Hamissauga Chess Club

Hamissauga (online) Chess Club plays at LiChess.

We finished our second tournament this evening.
I called our first 2 events: Hamissauga test 1 and test 2.
It was mostly for me to learn how to host online events.
We played 5 rounds with TC 5 + 5 with free entry for our guinea pigs.
My thanks to those who played.

I would like to have future tournaments CFC Active Rated, so an entry fee to cover fees and perhaps a small prize fund.
Still working out the details and gauging what is possible.

I would like some feedback, so please email me or post here.

Turnout Wednesday was disappointing. Only 10 players.
Although I did notice a few others watching, and the club has 30 members.

So, I will keep on reaching out to new players.
But having a CFC rated event will be delayed until I am satisfied we have enough interest.

I will set up another unrated event for next Wednesday at 8pm.
Not sure what the time control should be. But once I decide on that, I will post a notice.

Try a variety and see what attracts the most interest.
    • 10 + 5 works for a lot of older players, and 5 rounds takes less than 2 hours;
    • 3 + 3 is fast, but not crazy-fast.

and neither of this is found much online, so they carve their own niche.

    Thanks John.
My thinking was to increase the time control, as 15/5 and 15/10 seems to be popular.
    I will take your suggestion.

    Hamissauga Rapid 1 - Wednesday, June 10, 8pm - TC 10 + 5

    Tournament announcement to follow.
We play on LiChess, so new members will need to create an account on LiChess.
Then you search for Hamissauga Chess Club, and request to join.

If you would like feedback, I find longer increments more appealing.

Thanks Aris. Yes, I do want to hear from members. BUT.......
For those who threaten not to play just because they don't get a particular TC, ........bye bye.

Did you see the notice on regular rating adjustment? see thread in CFC news.
In a nutshell, online games with TC minimum 25 minutes, are eligible for new bonus plan.

So, for my Wednesday (or other weekday) evening, likely shorter TC because I see some people like Max 2 hrs.

But, for my upcoming (not announced yet) CFC rated online, TC will be minimum 25 minutes.
So, who likes 20+5 versus 15+10?

    Hi Bob and everyone else,
It is GREAT to see you all talking more about online chess and especially CFC-rated ones. Please, do not "despair" because not enough attention has been reached... It is summer and weather outside is so nice (especially after a long quarantine). Besides, new things may take bit to take off. Just today Fred has his 4th CFC-rated tournament in Chess.com and "only" 20 or so players joined. But there is room for improvement.
I think one possibility is to explore different time controls and/or different times of the day (and days of the week). For example, I have been playing with Fred's club, which is mostly Atlantic time (1 hour more than mine here in Ottawa). They start at 6pm (my time) which is a bit inconvenient for me (but I still play because is the opportunity available, and because I am VERY grateful for what Fred is doing). But if you have a tournament at 8pm (Ontario time) that would be MUCH better for me. [In fact, I like to put my "money" where my mouth is so I will join your club and will try to play this Wednesday).
Bottom line, keep pushing, you have the appreciation and support from some (at least I count myself among that, even though my chess level is nothing impressive).
I am convinced that good things for CFC online are around the corner. Just keep pushing ;-)
    Cheers, Jose
