Something to ponder: Some years back the Ottawa Sun did a poll asking if you'd eat a fish caught from the Ottawa River. 25% said yes, 75% said no. The next day there was a poll asking if you'd ever go to a Pride parade. 25% said yes, 75% said no.

I am not sure what rights you are referring to. People should not discriminate against anyone. In the case of marriage, I don't think LGBTQ people should be sheltered from the horrors of marriage and Canada's divorce laws.

The 'rights' are what the wiki link in the first post of this thread refer to. Personally, since my current beliefs are largely (but not entirely) mainstream Christian, I tend to want things to be 'retro', if it's what it takes for them to be what I think is clearly Biblical. This country had been founded on Judeo-Christian principles for its law and other aspects of life, but has drifted away from that (thus it may be no coincidence that things in general have gotten worse over time, IMO, and not just for us). One problem for my viewpoint may be, what should be considered problematical/minor sin (and left to God to deal with as He sees fit), and what should be [still] clearly be against the law of the land. It seems a lot of the LGBTQ activists are out to get after organized religion in any way they can, in any case. Not to mention Hollywood.

What happened to Alan Turing (British Nazi code-breaker etc.), if I recall right, has been viewed as a tragedy for a brilliant man, especially in hindsight. On the other hand, what happens if in a prolonged vision of God, He told you things you've done wrong, and then even a tendency you've had that you didn't act on (with no further comment)? What do you think He thinks of that tendency? I'll leave it to you to decide if I've ever had such a vision, and tendency, however mad that may sound. Anyway, personally I think the choice Turing had to make was awful - if being the way he was before that is ever made illegal again, if it was up to me, I'd just make a typical penalty to be a hefty fine, though I tend to be a softie in many people's eyes, in person, IMHO.

If you are going to profess that you are a Chirstian, you have to follow the precept to love the sinner and hate the sin. There are evil people but for the most part the alphabet people do not fall into this category. We are all guilty so to get hung up on someone else being a bit more guilty kind of misses the point. As Jesus said, remove the beam that is in your own eye so that you can see clearly to remove the mote that is in your brother's eye.

Not sure that addresses the spirit of much of what I last wrote about at all. As an aside, how do you feel about abortion, if you care to say? Is that just a sexual act outcome preference, an arguably minor matter that should be legally allowed on demand in Canada (or elsewhere), too? If that is a clear-cut case, what to say about the idea that the main topic of this thread is, for example, a serious threat to the family unit, at the least in the long term?

Anyway, this thread is not necessarily about any one person's possible hang up, or opinion of what should be legal, or interpretation of the Bible, or personal experience. It's about just one controversial issue that's out there, and which might generate traffic for the website. Unless you believe it's too distasteful, and that the thread should be closed.

If I were to take off my religious/experience hat and think only of politics, this sort of social conservative issue has become a third rail and a loser for the Conservative party now that the left is entrenched in Canada (and elsewhere), as of many decades ago. Maybe what you just wrote about as a nice generality is all that's left for social conservatives to fall back on when faced with such issues (including abortion on demand) by the leftist media - why not just get out the white flag? I certainly had that angle in the back of my mind when starting this thread, too.

P.S.: Here's a bit of insight into some of the so-called science of this field (when applied to this sort of topic, IMHO it's prone to be junk science and/or driven by a political agenda):
