There have been a number of changes in the last year which hopefully have had a lasting impact on chess in Canada. I think the biggest is the way communities have stepped forward and embraced the idea of sports tourism and have opened these doors and opportunities to chess organizers across Canada. Instead of waiting until the last moment we are filling out our calendar two years into the future and in the case of the Canadian Closed four years into the future. At the moment we have a shortage of chess organizers relative to the number of communities that are interested.

The DGT deal which gives access to FIDE development commission pricing to the CFC should result in over 1200 DGT electronic chess clocks and something like 60 DGT Boards making their way into the hands of Canadian organizers at a significantly reduced price. Thank you to Larry Bevand and the CMA, Hal Bond, Fred McKim and DGT for making this possible. Organizers from coast to coast have taken advantage of this opportunity.

imho, the newsletters shall be deliver on regular bases. Even if the page count is reduced by half, it is much better to remind players regularly about the existence of the CFC
