    Dear Larry:

Thanks for clarifying matters and I appreciate your comment that the current deal is certainly better than what we had in place.

    All the best.

Here's speculative fiction (Fermov's Last TN) from 1981, published in 1982:

"...and a sophisticated chess program from Computer Central.

A program that not only played chess, but contained all the teaching material and amusements from 1,000 chess books. Other "games" could have got there first but the Chess Federation of Canada had enough foresight to see what was happening in 1983 and had everything prepared when the big change came.

By 1989 the Chess Federation had the biggest membership at Computer Central. Over 11 million Canadians subscribed to one service or another - chess news, postal chess, weekend tournaments, national opens, play the computer, problem solving, problem composition, top recent games, best games of all time, computer annotate your game, human annotate your game, computer teach you, human teach you, find the combination - and more, all at the touch of a fingertip.

When 2,500,000 entered the 1989 Canadian Open and 1046 still had perfect scores after the scheduled 10 rounds, the computer was asked to find all the players with a strength of over 2000. The computer found only 541...."

Yeah, OK, the author didn't foresee internet video (or even images) or facebook, so the numbers are inflated. But his prescience was much further off base in regard to the CFC!

One prediction that does seem to have come to pass is that Internet Chess > OTB chess, and OTB chess is reaping a benefit, despite its miserable state in other ways.

Don't raise your hopes too high that you'll ever get any! I also requested answers while pointing to issues posted here and got nothing in return...

The last two posters - Valer and Egidijus -are both governors. Is there no response to postings on the governors' board? Is the governors' board very active?

    Just curious.

    The Governors' Board is moribund.

    Hi John:

The Governors' Board is relatively inactive.

In fact, though, I do not post there on any non-confidential issues. I think the governors should post on this members' CFC Chess Forum. This promotes dialogue between members and governors, and proves that some governors are alive !

Bob Armstrong "CFC governer" with access to the governer's board? Surely that is not true until the AGM. ( and the second day of the AGM at that)

I was intending to add to my previous post: "I think that the main downfall of the CFC is the lack of communication between the CFC Executives, Governors, and members."

(sorry, I only wound with a original Russian text.)

That is another example of the lack of information. Bob Armstrong was promoted to the CFC Governor in May, when Kerry Liles resigned
