A link to a story that still may have serious reverberations in Canada to this day: How the Communists took Control, an early 1970's article that includes a discussion of various aspects of Pierre Trudeau's rise to become a Canadian Prime Minister (Liberal), among other factoids about the man:
P.S.: Here's a wiki that includes mention of an apparently less successful outcome, in 1988, for the Communist Party of Canada, in Manitoba. Not sure it's the same N.H.:

Nigel does a lot of work around the website as a volunteer. Let us not abuse him in any way. We don't want to become an extension of chesstalk.
Pierre Trudeau for all his faults was our prime minister for many years. He was re-elected many times. He is dead. Lets be respectful. There was much to criticize him for but we are here for chess and not for bashing the long dead politicians who shaped our Canadian identity.
Paul Martin Sr. was an old time politician who did a lot of good. He helped my mother immigrate to Canada. He was not a communist. I would be quite suspicious of any online article which indicated otherwise. Lets stay away from libelous or questionable web pages.
