Below is the wiki on the 2019 Alberta provincial election, which saw a landslide victory by the UCP; once again, in dark times (usually thanks to the folly of the Left), Conservatives have been summoned to govern, in the hope of cleaning up a horrible mess:

Below is the wiki re: the recent Prince Edward Island provincial election, which resulted in a minority government for the PCs. Also, for the first time, the Green party has become the Official Opposition in a Canadian province; couple that with a Green party win in a BC federal by-election yesterday, and things are looking ominous for the NDP, federally at least, since it seems dissatisfied voters on the Left are more and more preferring the Greens, if not the Liberals, over the NDP, which is at the least rather lacking in good leadership:

Fwiw, the online magazine Spiked is somewhat sceptical of the recent UN claim that one million species are at risk of extinction:

Interesting article. I am afraid that we still have issues with the balance needed when considering our relationship with nature but almost anything coming out of the UN can be viewed with suspicion as it seems to me their solution for every problem is to give them more money and power.

Here's the wiki re: Mark Norman, a central figure of a possibly even bigger scandal to come for Canada's federal Liberal government than the SNC-Lavalin affair:

Canadian Pamela Anderson visited publisher Julian Assange in the UK high-security prison Belmarsh. It's a odd place for someone who's never been charged, much less convicted, of a violent offence.

But everyone knows the UK is just obeying their masters in Washington.

    See https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=V25FNhFazOQ

Let's hope the UK doesn't go "full Gestapo" on Assange and the publisher winds up "shot while attempting to escape", etc. How far that country has fallen from "fair play" and all the other BS of empire is really shocking.

We now return to your regularly scheduled fake news. lol.

Here's a link re: US tariffs on China to start Friday. The prelude to a [trade] war, or simply yet another Trumpian negotiating tactic?:

Default Fewer Cubans in Canadian chess tournaments thanks to GoC

This one is somewhat chess-related: the Government of Canada, among other things, has eliminated visa processing at the Canadian Embassy in Havana. So Cubans now have to fly to another country to get a visa to come to Canada - say, to play in a chess tournament.

I guess that is effectively goodbye to all Cuban chess-players in Canadian tournaments.

Not very friendly by Canada I would say.

A link to a story that still may have serious reverberations in Canada to this day: How the Communists took Control, an early 1970's article that includes a discussion of various aspects of Pierre Trudeau's rise to become a Canadian Prime Minister (Liberal), among other factoids about the man:

    LINK DELETED
P.S.: Here's a wiki that includes mention of an apparently less successful outcome, in 1988, for the Communist Party of Canada, in Manitoba. Not sure it's the same N.H.:

Nigel does a lot of work around the website as a volunteer. Let us not abuse him in any way. We don't want to become an extension of chesstalk.

Pierre Trudeau for all his faults was our prime minister for many years. He was re-elected many times. He is dead. Lets be respectful. There was much to criticize him for but we are here for chess and not for bashing the long dead politicians who shaped our Canadian identity.

Paul Martin Sr. was an old time politician who did a lot of good. He helped my mother immigrate to Canada. He was not a communist. I would be quite suspicious of any online article which indicated otherwise. Lets stay away from libelous or questionable web pages.

Here's the wiki re: English Bay (Vancouver, British Columbia), the site of a 2015 oil spill offshore. Generally Left-wing Wikipedia doesn't do a particularly good job in covering BC environmental problems:

P.S.: A link to an article about exposing BC's environmental hypocricy:

P.P.S.: A link to an editorial about Quebec needing to cut out hypocrisy on oil opposition:
