    Default The 2018 Quebec Open - Longueuil, QC - July 21-28, 2018

    The tournament opened today in the Sandman Hotel just a bridge across from the Island of Montreal.

    The five-section, nine-round event features 173 players from 10 federations (CAN, USA, FID, FRA, IND, IRI, ISR, MNC, RUS, TUR), including 6 GMs, 2 IMs, 1 WIM, 6 FMs, 1 CM, 6 MNs.

    Games on the first four boards are broadcast live.

    Very happy to have Bob Armstrong play in the COQ and the Montreal Summer Chess Classic. Bob is in the U-2000 section and he is kindly blogging his experience on his Facebook page. In Bob's own words,
    I focus almost exclusively on the sections in which I play (I am 1715 FQE) - usually the U 2000 & U 1800 sections. This is because it gets little official coverage generally, yet most Canadian players are in the B, C & D classes.

    After three rounds, Montreal-based young star FM Krishna Sai G V achieved an interim rating of 2405.

    A certificate under Art. 1.53a was signed by the Chief Arbiter Bernard Ouimet and awarded to Sai by the organizer Richard Bérubé at a special ceremony on July 23.
