Default Panamerican Youth Chess Festival - Santiago, Chile - July 21-29, 2018

XXIX Festival Panamericano de la Juventud 2018 (the 2018 Panamerican Youth Chess Festival) is this year's edition of the traditional event organized under the auspices of the Confederation of Chess for America (CCA). It features all traditional FIDE age-based categories from U-08 through U-18 in both Girls and Open.

The Chilean Chess Federation hosts the PanAm Youth in the capital Santiago from July 21 through July 29, 2018.

    The official tournament site.

    Invitation, schedule and regulations.

Tournament on Chess-Results. (Please note that the crucial feature "Overview for team: CAN" doesn't work yet as of 7/19; hope it will be fixed before the start.)

The CFC Youth Coordinator Undriadi Benggawan and the CFC President Vald Drkulec announced clear and transparent selection criteria well in advance in April 2018, then supervised and facilitated selection and registration of a great team led by our amazing HoD.

Here's a manual hack that seems to do the trick. I built up the following URL by hand: if you go here, you would see all registered Canadians highlighted as if the Team Overview functionality were enabled. Proceed by clicking on various tournament sections, like Open U-12, _from the same browser tab_, and you'll see that the markup holds.

We'll see what happens when Rd 1 pairings are published. Obviously, it would be better for Team Overview to work natively.

The pre-opening dispatch by Team Canada HoD Christina Tao:
First round will start [July 22]. It is quite far from hotel to playing hall.
The organizer will arrange shuttle service to transport players and their families and to return back to hotel. The subway system is huge and quite modern.
The playing hall is very well organized and prepared. All the boards, sets and clocks are brand new. Many were still in boxes when we arrived. I spent some time talking to the organizer and took a few pictures.
