The inaugural Montreal Winter Chess Classic completed successfully. It was a privilege to welcome a sizeable Ontario delegation. Hope all ON players and parents had a great time, despite Arctic cold that often forced participants to wear parkas and fur hats at the boards.

The tournament's focus was on the Invitational Masters section that featured seven titled players plus a national master from Ontario and Quebec. Now that I've submitted all reports for the FIDE, CFC and FQE, it is official: a young FM Zong Yang Yu has achieved, for the first time in his career, a FIDE rating exceeding 2400, which is one of the conditions necessary to gain an IM title (Art. 1.53).

Chess lovers young and not so young came in great numbers to play in other sections side-by-side with masters. Excellent work by the organizer FM Lefong Hua! A lot of thanks to the FQE for its help with the equipment and promoting the new tournament. Many parents have commented how their young kids were in awe to see the Président, M. Bernard Labadie, take part in the tournament himself and teach youngsters the vaue of fair play.

The final results for all sections are accessible here:
    http://chess-results.com/tnr323699.a...det=YES&wi=984
Please take a special look at the U-1800 section that was carried by three (!) talented female players. Please note also that we have made a special arrangement with the CFC in advance to rate peformances of Ontario juniors in U-1800, so the three bright youngsters from the Toronto area will see significant CFC rating increases after the next update.

[ I would like to encourage all TDs across the country to post the results and wrap-offs of your tournaments in this section, so that the permanently-free CFC Forum becomes as popular and lively as the other place used to be. ]
