    Up again.
    Memberships at March 1, 2019 = 2,470
    But 179 memberships expiring yesterday,
so back to 2,291 this morning.

Up again, but 2,500? "Missed it by that much"

    Memberships at April 1, 2019 = 2,497
    But 147 memberships expiring yesterday,
so back to 2,350 this morning.

Can we get 150 renewals and new members by May 1 to reach 2,500 for the annual census?

    We did it.
    Memberships at May 1, 2019 = 2,501

The annual membership breakdown is posted on the CFC website, for those who know where to find it.

The stats show Quebec with 18 honorary and 26 life. If I go to the "tdlist" downloaded on May 4, I see Quebec with:

    Exp: 31/12/2099: 9
    Exp: 01/12/2099: 40
    Exp: 01/01/2099: 1
    Exp: 01/01/1940: 64
    Exp: 01/01/1950: 3
    Exp: 01/02/1950: 10
    Exp: 01/03/1950: 2

All others seem to be "normal" expiry dates (from 1975 on). GMs and IMs (do they all get honorary memberships?) and regular Life members seem to be in both of the 12/2099 groups.

Can someone PLEASE give me a complete explanation of what these various expiry dates represent? And why are any non-life Quebec members included with valid expiry dates (such as #155300 Shawn Rodrigue-Lemieux)? Wouldn't they all be FQE members only? Is it something to do with FIDE-rated events?

There are several players labelled as "QC" who are clearly from other provinces (169820 to 169823).

I would ssy your stats should either exclude all Quebec players, or add in the number of FQE members from Quebec - since FQE members have the right to play in any CFC-rated event since the FQE-CFC agreement. There are 1195 FQE (non-honorary) members - about a dozen or so are from outside Quebec.

I suspect Bob is too busy to give a full answer to your questions, Hugh.

However, http://chess.ca/players?search_ratin...=QC&key=190515 (which would have been last updated May 8) gives 45 life members (for some reason off from the May 1 annual stats by 1)

I suspect Shawn is an actual CFC member.

At one time we used to use those 1940 / 50 dates for non-CFC members in special events (not requiring CFC membership).

Some but not all of the FQE players who have played in CFC events recently will show up at the above page I've linked to. It's all part of how it (the rating program / website) sets expiry dates for non-members playing in CFC events.

It's not up to the CFC office to change addresses (and really city and province are sufficient in this paperless age) on file, without notification from the player or an organizer. In fact I just sent 3 today to Bob, for juniors who have recently moved from PEI.

I think our stats should include a second category of non-member tournament players which could include FQE members who play in CFC events, juniors who play in our junior-only CFC events without being members, and anyone who purchased a single CFC tournament pass -- all in the past 12 months. Perhaps in a future agreement with FQE we will decide to include all of the FQE members as CFC members - but we're not there yet.

OK, Bob. That's cruel and unusual punishment.

    Hi,

I'd be curious to know how many of the Life Members are actually active.
It seems to me that 20% of membership has a Life Membership, but the number of players I come across with Life Membership is far less.

Not all Life Members choose to play rated chess. I believe my last rated tournament was 2001. I have played many chess games in the last 18 years.

I count approximately 13 out of 26 Life Members in the Maritimes as playing in a CFC event in the last two or three years.
