Default Fantastic achievement by Allison Tsypin ( Chess player from Quebec )

The American Mathematics Competition 8 (AMC8), run by The Mathematical Association of America (MAA) since 1950, is the world's most prestigious examination in middle school mathematics designed to promote the development of problem-solving skills.

The results of the 2016 edition of AMC8 were published on December 23, just in time for the holidays. 108,295 total students took part worldwide and the average score was just 9.36 out of 25. The Honour Roll was for students who obtained scores in the Top 5%, and yet another category, the Distinguished Honour Roll, was for students who obtained scores in the Top 1% worldwide. You can access a multitude of reports by going to
    https://amc-reg.maa.org/report s/generalreports.aspx
and selecting Contest: AMC8 11/15/2016 and Location: Canada. ( The two most relevant ones are attached as PDF files.)

We are happy to share good news with you: Allison made the Distinguished Honour Roll, i.e. achieved a score in the Top 1% worldwide (please see the second file). As you know, I am not a fan of contests with extremely tight time control, and those are definitely not Allison's strong suit, so this is a really remarquable and reassuring achievement. She became the only student from Quebec on the DHR; the list is dominated by specialized Ontario schools. We are very grateful to the Montreal Math Circle (especially Dr. Alina Stancu and Mme Ildiko Pelczer), l'Institut des sciences mathématiques and Concordia University for preparing the students and proctoring the examination.

Thanks so much to all of you for your constant support and encouragement! Happy Holidays and a very joyous New Year 2017 to you and your families!

    Chers amis,

    https://amc-reg.maa.org/report s/generalreports.aspx
