Default Change in Time Control (FIDE)

    Hello all,

We've found a problem with our original intention to have the time control of 90/30, 60/SD. Although this works fine for CFC-rated events, the same is not so for FIDE events.

From the "Rate of Play" Section of FIDE documents, we recently found:

1.3 Where a certain number of moves is specified in the first time control, it shall be 40 moves. Players benefit from uniformity here.

    ---

In light of this, we're being forced to change the time control for the top section in order to rate it with FIDE. Since we have enough digital clocks for the top boards, and wanted to keep the total length of the game to approximately 5 hours, the time control will be changed to 120 minutes for the whole game, with 30 seconds increment per move from the beginning.

    ---

The other sections (2200, U2000, U1800 & U1600) will remain with the originally advertised time control of 90 minutes for the first 30 moves and 1 hour Sudden Death.

We apologize for only announcing this change 3 weeks before the tournament, but hopefully digital clocks with increments will provide the opportunity for higher quality chess.

Default 50 entries so far !

    Hello,

The Hart House Summer Open will take place in 3 weeks and we've just broken 50 entries

IM Leonid Gerzhoy and IM Nikolay Noritsyn lead the field of advance registrations.

We may just break last Summer's record of 115

    Default 70 entries!

    Hello all,

The Summer Open at Hart House is only 8 days away.
70 people have signed up, so it's looking to be a promising event!

A reminder that there's a team prize and you may want to start thinking about who to team up with. 4 players per team from 3 different sections.
You may register your teams on-site before round 1.

    Default 100 !

    Woot !

We've broken 100 pre-registrations for the Hart House Summer Open.
Looks like we're on track to break last year's record of 115 and meet our goal to pass 120. GM Sambuev, IM Noritsyn and FM Bekefi are at the top of the table, with players all the way to what looks like it'll be a very competitive U1600 section, consisting of almost half of all the entries.

    All details at:
    http://hhchess.sa.utoronto.ca/hhopen

On an important note, Omar Shah will be at the tournament site selling some used chess books from his vast collection at very reasonable prices. He will also bring some of the newest books on behalf of Strategy Games and will be selling them at regular retail price. If there's any specific item you're looking for and would like Omar to bring, do e-mail him at oshah316@yahoo.com
Omar will also give a book prize from his collection in the lower section of the tournament.

    See you all Friday,
