Default 6.2 Nominations: Chess Foundation of Canada Trustees (1 year term)

The Chess Foundation of Canada has a board of 5 members - 4 serving 4 year terms, 1 serving a 1 year term.

The present Chess Foundation board is:

    2010-2014 Lynn Stringer
    2011-2015 Micah Hughey
    2012-2016 Paul Leblanc
    2013-2017 Hans Jung
    2014-2014 Hugh Brodie

What this means is that Lynn Stringer (4 year term) and Hugh Brodie (1 year term) will be leaving the Foundation board with the new board being Hughey, Leblanc and Jung plus the new 4 year trustee and the new 1 year trustee to be elected by the meeting of incoming Governors (aka voting members)

Please post nominations for the open 1 year position here.

Could someone please describe the duties and commitment involved? If it is not time consuming I may be interested.

    Duties are very light:
    - read my quarterly reports and the brokerage statements to check my work for accuracy
    - promote the Chess Foundation to potential donors
    - encourage the sale of life memberships

Please provide the information regarding your second and third items, particularly how the Chess Foundation was promoted to the potential donors and what was a success rate (how many donors and how much) and how many life memberships were sold in the past year, plus compare it to previous years.

There have not been many donors but here is the complete list: Kalev Pugi $10,000 and subsequent donations by others to bring that up to $20,504, Toronto Building Fund $23,814.47, $46,684 from sale of the CFC building (held in trust), Saskatchewan Chess Federation (held in trust) $5,507.
We ran a country wide campaign 2 years ago by placing flyers at all major events. Hard to judge the success. I am aware of 3 people who have put the Foundation in their will or insurance policy. There may be others that have not informed me.
Life memberships have been the main source of income over the years. I'll give you the numbers for the past 7 years that I have been involved: 9, 2, 4, 7, 3, 8, 6.
You can see more information in my annual report posted under executives and officers reports.

I should add that when the CFC lost its charitable status it became more difficult to convince people to donate to the Foundation

Lyle Craver also indicated to me that he would be willing to stand for this position
