    Mr Armstrong,
Other federations such as the UK Federation have included in their information releases public reasons why they support a candidate. I was told in the chess talk forum some sort of benefit was accruing to the CFC by supporting Kirsan. What exactly was the benefit? Also why is this information not publicly released or disclosed to CFC members. One would expect that if a benefit was accrued to the CFC it would help rationalize supporting such a controversial figure.

I am now advised by the CFC Executive, that they are in the final stages of preparing a more detailed statement on the CFC's endorsement of the FIDE incumbent President, Kirsan Ilyumzhinov (than the terse one initially issued by Hal Bond, CFC FIDE Representative). It should be released in the near future.

    From the Globe and Mail

“I doubt very much this federation (The CFC) needed any push [from the Kremlin],” Mr. Kasparov said in a telephone interview from New York. “It’s a small federation of people who don’t care about promoting the game. Which is why many chess traditions have been abandoned in recent years and Canada is no longer a major chess power.”

I am sure that Kasparov will gain many votes by calling us a a small federation of people who don’t care about promoting the game .

He also said he doesn't give a damn what Canadians think months before the FIDE election even crossed my mind. Apparently he wasn't exactly being truthful. He sure seems to care now. Jump to 5:25. Seems a bit hot under the collar....

Hi, Bob! You've been advised by the CFC Executive, THAT THEY ARE IN THE FINAL STAGES OF PREPARING A MORE DETAILED STATEMENT ON THE CFC's endorsement of the FIDE incumbent President. It should be RELEASED IN THE NEAR FUTURE. Any news on this "detailed statement"? What's in your opinion the "NEAR FUTURE" REALLY means? Please advise! CHEERS!

We have a statement prepared that includes a provision that blasts Kasparov for his tactics. We are still deciding whether to include it or not. I will probably make a final decision once we finish the debate with Robert Hamilton.

It might be prudent for the current executive to hold off on issueing a statement until the results of the impending election are known.

Not a bad idea, Ken. The statement could be prepared and then the Incoming Board of Directors decide whether to issue it as is or modify it.
