The 2012/13 period was successful for the Greater Toronto Area chess scene. As a true League it organized two championships amongst chess clubs and teams. The Willowdale Chess Club hosted the revived 8-teams CFC-regular-rated one-game-per-week event. Many local strong masters came to play. The Chess Academy of Canada held the champions’ title again. The results were posted regularly on www.chess-results.com website (see http://www.chess-results.com/tnr89121.aspx?lan=1 )
The Annex Chess Club invited clubs and everyone to form teams and play in the GTCL Cup – the Toronto Teams Rapid Chess tournament, a one-night event. After winning all matches the Hart House Chess Club won the championship. The results were published at http://annexchessclub.com/2013/03/2013-gtcl-cup/

The GTCL sanctions these individual championships – Juniors (Mike Ivanov), Women (Zhanna Sametova), Seniors (Dante Zuniga), and soon finishing Reserve and Closed. The GTCL supports these events financially by paying rating fees and providing trophies.

I am proud to announce a new club in the GTCL what I helped to grow with Graeme Knight and Bernie Prost from the scratch – the Aurora Chess Club in the York Region. Over the year the club attracted more than 50 members; most of them are or become OCA/CFC members too. The club organized for them two CFC-rated weekly tournaments, and it looks forward to the first Summer Open in July 6-7 (details http://www.aurorachessclub.ca/?page_id=2395 ). You are welcome to come and play.

The list of other GTCL chess clubs could be found on the GTCL website http://www.torontochess.org

The Greater Toronto Area was filled with other different chess events on the national and provincial scale. The CMA organized the 2013 Canadian Juniors Championship in Toronto; the Mississauga CC rescued the Ontario Girls’ Championship; the 2012 Toronto International was held at Annex CC; and many CMA regional Challenge events. Of course everybody enjoyed the huge Winter Open (~180 players) at the Hart House. Soon the CMA will invite to the 2013 North American Youth Chess Championship in Toronto.

This ends my term as a Vice-President; and Evgeni Tobolovsky will be a new GTCL representative on the Executive Board in 2013/14 period.
