(copying links from forum posts by copy/paste can result in getting a "shortened" version - with ... in the middle - that is used in the text for the link; perhaps that is what happened?) Notice that my link and the original LOOK the same but where they point to is quite different. If you need to copy a link, I suggest right clicking on it and then "copy link location" or whatever along those lines.

Yeah, it may be the same if it is short enough, but unlikely. The italicized link is just the text that will be highlighted to go to the link. Oddly enough, email spammers and phishers use a similar technique: the text you click on doesn't match where it really goes! (for them, that lets them redirect hapless people to their trashy site when they think they are clicking on TDBank or whatever).

In this case, the forum software decides it doesn't have room to display the exact link location, so it shortens it (with dot dot dot in the middle) as a sort of a representation of the actual link location. If you copy that verbatim, the link is pretty much worthless.

I just wish the forum software wouldn't try to be so helpful.
