    The CFC Regular Chess Post – July 13/12 – CFC On-line AGM.

    The recent CFC first ever on-line AGM, open to the public, was held July 2 – 8. There was 4 days of debate, and then 3 days of voting. Non-governors were to be allowed to participate on contacting the Chair of the Meeting, the CFC President, or the CFC Secretary ( Posting Secretary of the Meeting ). This was not clearly advertised beforehand, however, and no one took advantage of this possibility. Perhaps it will be more dominant in the next on-line AGM, if that is decided in future.

    It was in two parts, and here is the attendance ( including 2 proxies filed ) of the governors:

    Outgoing Governors’ AGM – 35/56 governors ( 63 % );
    Incoming Governors’ AGM – 40/57 governors ( 70 % ).

    This attendance is probably higher than the attendance at the previous face-to-face AGM’s held traditionally during the Canadian Open, when one counts the proxies that used to be able to be submitted. The clear advantage of the on-line AGM was that significantly fewer proxies were filed at the on-line AGM, and so this means more governors actually participated in the live debate during the meeting, than was possible previously. In future, though, proxies will not be allowed at on-line meetings – it is felt any governor should be able to check in sometime, to a meeting going 24 hrs/day, over 7 days.
