A new Children's Chess Club has been running at the Duncan, B.C. Branch of Vancouver Island Regional Library (VIRL). Turnout was slow in the first week. However, over the past 3-4 weeks the turnout has been excellent with 8-12 children showing up, with parents and guardians also taking in the brief lessons, of varying ages and skill levels.

I have 7 boards (pieces recently purchased from the CFC) and I also use a Demo Board to give the lessons. The children vary in age from 6 to 10. Skill levels also vary. It's obvious to me that some of the parents are also keen to learn.

The club is at the Duncan branch of VIRL on Saturdays from 1145 to around 1245. It is held in a separate children's room, with storage space, tables, and so on. The Library is even noting the club on their schedule of events. I've made contact with some local public school teachers which has helped, I think.
